Founded in 1959 in Tokyo as the SHOEI Kako Co., LTD they were established to manufacture generic safety helmets. The next year they moved into a larger factory and began to manufacture motorcycle helmets and earned their Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS) certification for motorcycle helmets. By 1963 SHOEI was producing racing helmets and supporting motorcycle racing. As the company grew, their identity became their commitment to innovation, safety, style and comfort. SHOEI helmets were adopted by Honda as their official racing helmets in 1965. Through their commitment to safety and innovation, SHOEI led the way with many firsts in the industry. This included the first helmet made with Kevlar and carbon fiber, the first shield system to be coverless and the first Duel Line Ventilation system. In 2003 SHOEI created what they claimed to be the most advanced helmet in the world in the X-Spirit. The X-Spirit won the MCN Product of the Year Award in 2003 and SHOEI continued their innovation with RF-1000 and the X-Eleven, all innovations in their time. SHOEI continues its innovative ways today with the GT-Air and NXR. Shoei, one of the most legendary names in the helmet manufacturing industry has been around since 1959. The company started with small scale general helmet manufacturing in Japan and acquired a larger facility within a year. Today, Shoei is known as a synonym for safety and simplicity. Starting from such humble beginning, Shoei quickly became a professional’s favorite as it began offering sports helmets by the mid 60s. By the late 60s, Shoei expanded its reach to the other side of the world and the Shoei Safety Helmet Corporation was founded in California. However, the most notable moment in Shoei’s history was the introduction of the world’s first carbon fiber helmet in 1976. This is when the company literally revolutionized the industry. The innovation continued over the next decade, and Shoei also became the first manufacturer to offer ventilated helmets.
After launching a dozen of sports and urban helmets, Shoei stands as one of the biggest manufacturers providing helmets at a global level. While the brand is committed to development and utilization of innovative ideas and advanced technology, it is also known for its exceptional global outreach. Shoei’s global expansion is reflective of how the brand aims to spread quality to every corner of the world. The company believes in making innovation affordable for everyone, everywhere. Dedicated to industry innovation, Shoei invests exceptional amounts of time and resources in its research and development program. Each new line launched by the company, caters to one very specific target group of riders, and answers their specific concerns with great success. The safety level of Shoei helmets depends on two major factors: its stability at high speed as well as the choice of lid material and design. Given the price of Shoei’s brilliant designs, it won’t be wrong to assume that Shoei is a truly customer-centred company. So far, Shoei has lived up to its promise and we are never disappointed when it comes to the quality or performance of its products. It is also due to its quality that it has become a top favorite brand for professional racers including Marc Marquez , Eddie Lawson and Wayne Gardner. For everyone who thinks the market has too much to offer and the choices are quite confusing, Shoei remains the brand we always recommend as a safe and satisfactory option.
